The LA Times Festival of Books, Once Again

I will be spending the weekend at one of my favorite events of the year, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books held at one of my favorite locations in the Southland, the campus of UCLA. The "Book Fair" as my friend Roderick has been known to call it, has 300 exhibitor booths representing booksellers, publishers, literacy and cultural organizations. In addition, it has exciting author events, storytelling, cooking demonstrations and poetry readings. Since its inception 13 years ago (I was there!) it has become the largest and most prestigious book festival in the country, attracting more than 130,000 book lovers each year. I think the first year I went it was 30,000 attendees, so it has certainly become popular, for good reason! Plus, it is free!

Happy Birthday Dear D!

You would have been born on Tax Day, but you waited ten minutes and made it the 16th instead!

Who would have thought that a baby with brown hair who sle
pt all the time would turn into the blonde dynamo that you are?!?

All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much. - George Harrison

Spring Break Woo Hoo!

I am off to Texas, with Mikel as my traveling companion. We actually get to sit together on the plane, and his father won't have to pay the unaccompanied minor fee. Tomorrow is the baby shower for Colin Troy Francis, due to arrive in 20 days. Of course it would be nice if he would decide to arrive, say, in two days! Assuming no childbirth events, I will return to the OC and enjoy the rest of Spring Break in SoCal, possibly including a visit to LA. Then of course, it will be back to Texas when that phone call comes! Gotta meet my new grandson!
